Christopher A. Daniel is a Black culture reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where he covers the people, movements, institutions, and creative forces shaping the region’s cultural landscape. An Atlanta-based, award‑winning journalist, cultural critic, and trained ethnomusicologist, Daniel brings deep expertise in the intersections of arts, identity, history and community to his reporting.
A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Daniel has built a wide-ranging career contributing in-depth features, criticism, and commentary on music, film, visual arts, and the broader cultural economy. His work is known for its sharp analysis, historical grounding, and ability to elevate underrepresented voices across the South.
Before joining the AJC, Daniel taught at Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and Georgia State University, focusing on music, entertainment and lifestyle journalism courses. His academic work blends cultural studies, Black music traditions and journalistic craft, helping guide the next generation of storytellers and critics.
Daniel’s reporting and criticism have earned recognition across the industry, and his insights into culture, race, and media have positioned him as a trusted voice in contemporary cultural journalism. Daniel is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University in South Carolina and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Georgia.
